Section 1 on the street

 (K , moving around)

(Radio)

X: Hey Clair

K: Hey, stop that, please.

X: What for? It’s about Expo and I want to know more about it. So what’s wrong?

K: Well, I guess all those expo things are kinda driving me crazy.

X: Fine, come on, let’s go and have a walk.

 

Y: (Sing and walk though) EXPO EXPO, It’s a wonderful EXPO. Come on, let’s go. Let’s go to the EXPO. Oh~~ yeah, go to the EXPO.

 

K：Jenny, do you hear that？I don’t really get it I guess.

X: Well, that’s the Expo again.

K: What？…Well I cant bear it any more！Why does everyone keep talking about the stupid thing all the time？What do they expect? There are long long long queues，sweating people, too-expensive stuff. What else?

X：Come on，Clair，it’s a big event in China and abroad. No wonder everyone’s looking forward to it. This is gonna be the first comprehensive World Expo held in Asia. The 2010 World Expo is an honor for all Asians, and the government wants to try their best.

K: It’s none of my business.
X: Don’t you wanna do anything to help?

K: No way. It’s stupid.

S（Running and singing）: EXPO EXPO, It’s a wonderful EXPO. Come on, let’s go. Let’s……

K: That’d be a pretty nice song if it wasn’t about the Expo, dude.

S: (Staring, going on singing) EXPO EXPO, It’s a wonderful EXPO.

X: Hey Daniel，what are you up to？

S：THE EXPO IS asking for volunteers，so I…

K：（Interrupt S）So you wanna join in？That’s funny. You’re only 11 years old. The newspaper said “volunteers who are 16 or older are wanted”. Have you drunk a Magical Aging Potion or something？Maybe someday you can take me to Hogwarts，I’m quite sure George and Fred will like me.

S: Obviously you didn’t notice the asterisk，It said for some reason，they want some teenagers to join in as well. Do you wanna join in?

K ：Absolutely not！

X :（At the same time）Absolutely yes！

K: What are you gonna do then? Like this？Oh yes. Oh~~ yeah, go to the EXPO. (SINGING in a

strange voice and dancing )

S：I guess we can be a team. You know you can dance, I can sing, and Clair can sing and

dance.

K: That won’t work. 

X: Come on K, your dancing is so perfect. Seriously, it’d be a crime to keep your body inside yourself. You are aaaaamazing.

K: No. Thanks.

X: I guess we need some emergency action.

(X&S dragging K)

Section 2, during the audition

Y: (Sing) EXPO EXPO, It’s a wonderful EXPO. Come on, let’s go. Let’s go to the EXPO. Oh~~ yeah, go to the EXPO.

I’m the judge today. There are so many people who want to be volunteers. But it’s not an easy job. Next one is a group. Let me see if they are good enough.

S&K&X come in.

Y：Here already？Okay, show time!

K&S&X: Hi, we are CDJ, （names）

K: Claire

S：Daniel

X: And Jenny

（singing and dancing）

Y：Great show. Your group is quite good. But I’m sorry to tell you that only 2 of you can join us. You can tell me who should leave and why you must be here.

（All three gathering together in a circle ）

X: What?!

S: Damn it !

X&S：（Pointing at each other）You can leave.

       NO，not me

S：I found out about this competition first. I should go on.

X：Do you remember the old saying：”Lady’s first？” Be gentle, please！

X&S（Pointing at K together）You should leave！You are the one who never wanted to go!

K：I told you what? No！Way! When I said No, I was forced to join the game by you. Now I did my hardwork, and you want me to give up? It’s unfair. I dance really well and I can sing well. I’m amazing. If any of us should leave, definitely it’s not me. It should be you.

Y: Are you ready to say your decision?

S: Dear judge, I believe I should stay because I’m good at Chinese history, I can introduce China well. And I’m good at teamwork. I think X can leave. You know her studies are just so-so. And she isn’t as smart as me.

X: Dear judge, That’s not true. Though my studies aren’t great, I’m energetic and active. I like to help others. I think K should leave. In fact she didn’t want to be a volunteer. She’s here because we dragged her. here

K: Dear judge, don’t believe them. Well, at first, I didn’t want to come, but now I’m willing to be a team member. I can sing well, I can dance well, and my English is very good. I think you should let  S go. He can’t stand hard work.

   You all can go back home now. You are not who we are looking for.

K&X&S: Why?

Y: We need people who are patient, energetic, and kind.  The most important thing is cooperating well with others. But you, don’t! Bye-bye！ 

K&X&S: (look at each other and feel ashamed.) Sorry … We’re sorry. (CRYING) Please give us one more chance.

Y: Actually, things don’t always work like that. Let me tell you what really happens. You know I told you that only 2 of you can join us.

X: Well, I give up. I think they’re better than me. S is right. He’s good at Chinese history, and she’s good at English.

K: No, being a volunteer is your dream. I can drop out.

K&S&X: Hooray!!! (Hug together)
